Quick DIY Advent Calendar

Adventcalendar top

I got a crazy idea yesterday when I saw an advent calendar at pottery barn made out of burlap.

Advent calendar mid month

The form reminded me of something and it took a while to hit me. Then it did and I ran out to Target and bought…

Advent Calendar = original package

an over-the-door shoe organizer! 24 pockets made for twelve pair of shoes. I also bought a package of vinyl letters / numbers and ran home.

Voila!

Now since it was last minute, I plan on adding to it as we go through the month. So it might be more of a visual journal for December rather than an advent calendar. But if you have time you could easily and quickly tuck little notes and things in the pockets to be revealed on each day. I didn’t have enough of the numbers to label all the pockets, so I’m going to use some scrapbook supplies, ornaments and other things in my craft stash to embellish it. The label for December 2nd was made with some chipboard letters and scrap paper.

I’m pretty happy with the way it looks already, and will try to post more pictures through the month.

Platform 9 3/4 – Visit to King’s Cross Station

Platform 9 3/4

I wish I had Hermione’s time turner so I could go back and experience the excitment of the first reading of the Harry Potter books. Right before the first movie came out Hubby and I made a trip to London and of course we had to visit King’s Cross Station.

Platform 9 3/4 First Year Students

It was a surprise to see that they let us muggles see Platform 9 3/4 in all its glory.

No Broom Parking

We were careful to obey all the rules.

Platform 9 3/4 owls

I’ve got tickets for tonight to see the first part of the last installment of the series and I’ve been listening to the audiobook to refresh my memory.

If only I could take a portkey to London too.

Travel Photo Friday – Colorado River from the Train

Colorado

Taken from our compartment while traveling from San Jose to New Orleans, this shot reminds me of the amazing vistas that open up while riding the train across the U.S. There are no roads – only the river and the rails.
