D.I.Y. Advent Calendar Update – the first 8 days

DIY Advent Calendar Day 1-8

So here are the first two rows of the Advent Calendar I made from an over-the-door shoe organizer. I’ve been making use of some tiny clothes pins and binder clips to attach items to the front.

It is turning into more of a visual journal. We went to two basketball games as shown by the tickets. Then I hung a Santa ornament on the day of our office holiday party when the kids of our work community get to meet Santa. The other days are just decorated with odds and ends from my stash and a few favorite ornaments.

We’ve got some really fun days ahead and I look forward to adding some more festive items to the mix.

Quick DIY Advent Calendar

I got a crazy idea yesterday when I saw an advent calendar at pottery barn made out of burlap.

The form reminded me of something and it took a while to hit me. Then it did and I ran out to Target and bought…

an over-the-door shoe organizer! 24 pockets made for twelve pair of shoes. I also bought a package of vinyl letters / numbers and ran home.

Voila!

Now since it was last minute, I plan on adding to it as we go through the month. So it might be more of a visual journal for December rather than an advent calendar. But if you have time you could easily and quickly tuck little notes and things in the pockets to be revealed on each day. I didn’t have enough of the numbers to label all the pockets, so I’m going to use some scrapbook supplies, ornaments and other things in my craft stash to embellish it. The label for December 2nd was made with some chipboard letters and scrap paper.

I’m pretty happy with the way it looks already, and will try to post more pictures through the month.
